Tuesday Teaser ~ The Fault in Our Stars

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green is one of those books that's been on my radar for a while since I've read John Green before, so I figured it was time.

The Blurb:
Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning-author John Green’s most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

The First Paragraph:
Late in the winter of my seventeenth year, my mother decided I was depressed, presumably because I rarely left the house, spent quite a lot of time in bed, read the same book over and over, ate infrequently, and devoted quite a bit of my abundant free time to thinking about death.

The Teaser:
Which meant there was quite a lot of competitiveness about it, with everybody wanting to beat not only cancer itself, but also the other people in the room. Like, I realized that this is irrational, but when they tell you that you have, say, a 20 percent chance of living five years, the math kicks in and you figure that's one in five...so you look around and think, as any healthy person would: I gotta outlast four of these bastards.

    1. Yes, I need to see the movie. Nice to know you liked both. I sometimes worry that they'll ruin the story (because Hollywood NEVER does that. ;) )

  5. I've seen this book everywhere, and I'm sure I'll read it eventually. The Teaser, Opening, and blurb all intrigue me, and it sounds like a story I'd enjoy (even though the subject matter is grim).
Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment about WAR BRIDES.

  6. My granddaughter (@ age 14) made me read this book. I'm so glad she did. I loved it. The movie is true to the book, in case you're interested. I'll tell you what my granddaughter told me: "Don't read anything else until you read this book!" She's not bossy, she just knew I'd love the story.

    1. Isn't that the point of these memes? To help us find gems we wouldn't normally read?
